University of Hawaii, Honolulu, HawaiiPh.D. Physiology, 1990
Western Washington University, Bellingham, WashingtonB.S. Biology, 1985

Research Interests:

As a broadly trained physiologist, I have studied the functional modulation of membrane proteins, including: Na+ channel, Na+-K+ ATPase, Na+/H+ exchanger, glucose transporter and Ca2+ channel, using a variety of techniques. These studies have been done in whole animal, isolated organs, tissue and isolated cells. I am particularly interested in signal transduction pathways in cardiac cells, specifically the tyrosine kinase and protein kinase C systems. Students in my laboratory are currently engaged in studying the effects of tyrosine kinase activation on cardiac rhythms and the phosphorylation of cardiac proteins.
