Civil Engineering Technology

What Can I Do With A Major In Civil Engineering Technology?

Civil engineering technology majors learn the technical skills needed to help civil engineers design and construct large projects, such as buildings, roads, dams, bridges, airports and other relevant facilities. Students will learn how to analyze construction sites, use and maintain equipment, draft plans, and write reports. Students in the civil engineering technology program receive an education that stresses the practical application of engineering principles. Students take courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering mechanics, surveying, CAD, structural design, materials, soils, hydrology and construction. Many of these courses include laboratory activities that demonstrate the hands-on application of classroom concepts.

Based on the rigor of their academic preparation and consequent ability to apply engineering solutions to real-world problems, the graduates of this program are highly sought by industry recruiters. Senior civil engineering technology students are eligible to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) Exam which, when combined with the requisite amount of engineering experience, qualifies them to apply for the Professional Engineer (P.E.) Exam.
