Experience:

Dr. Peter F. Baumann has over 20 years industrial engineering experience, specializing in the selection and application of metals and alloys, polymers, ceramics, and composites. He has held several positions of increasing responsibility with Keane, Inc. and General Electric Company and most recently served as a senior technical consultant providing materials engineering support to the design engineering and manufacturing organizations of companies such as GE, Lockheed-Martin and Raytheon. He is also versed in many materials processing disciplines such as forming, heat-treating, coating, electroplating, and welding. In 1991, he was presented the GE Consulting Services Outstanding Team Performance Award.

Dr. Baumann is a member of several technical committees of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and currently holds the position of Honorary Chairman on the Light Metals and Alloys Committee, B07, within this organization. In 1997, he received an award of appreciation from the ASTM organization as a whole and in 1998 received an additional award of appreciation specifically from the Light Metals and Alloys Committee. Dr. Baumann has also been a member of American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Welding Society (AWS), Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE), and the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE). Locally, he serves on the Board of Directors and is a past Chairman of the Southern Connecticut Chapter of the American Society for Metals (ASM International).

 

Research Interests:

Mechanics of materials, contemporary and advanced engineering materials, modeling of mechanical and physical properties, and designed experimentation.
