| CCSU Honors Veterans |
| Central will be hosting two major events to commemorate Veterans’ Day. On November 9, The Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program and other University offices are sponsoring a panel discussion and reception honoring women veterans at CCSU. Included in the panel will be Dr. Linda Schwartz, Commissioner of Connecticut Department of Veterans’ Affairs. The event is free and open to the public and will take place on Monday, November 9, at 4:30 pm in Torp Theatre, Davidson Administration Building. |
 |
| On Wednesday, November 11, at 3:00 p.m., CCSU will dedicate the new Veterans Monument at the Student Center Circle. The University will also award the community and University Veterans Excellence Awards, and the community recipient will receive the first Veterans Excellence Scholarship. This event, too, is free and the public is invited to attend. For more information please contact (860) 832-2838 or email gutierrezc@ccsu.edu. Fall
Phonathon
Off
To Record
Start |
Our
phonathon
recently
surpassed
$40,000
in pledges
and
gifts,
two
months
sooner
than
in previous
fall
semesters.
The
phonathon,
which
operates
in the
fall
and
spring,
utilizes
current
students
calling
alumni
across
the
country
and
features
a computer-automated
dialing
system
that
keeps
track
of each
caller’s
performance.
Joseph Gordon, Jr., associate director of development,
said
the
phonathon
usually
reaches
$40,000
the
second
week
of December.
He attributes
this
success
to additional
training
sessions
for
callers,
increasing
employee
retention,
providing
a fun
work
atmosphere
and
better-trained
supervisors.
"We have a group of students who are dedicated and hardworking,"
Gordon
said.
"I also
believe
Central
alumni
are
very
supportive
of the
University
and
want
to be
part
of CCSU’s
success."
"It is crucial that alumni feel connected to the University
even
if they
haven't
been
back
on campus
for
since
they
graduated,"
Gordon
said.
"The
students
answer
questions
ranging
from
enrollment,
tuition
and
favorite
professors."
Since the phonathon began, 25 students have received more
than
700
pledges
and
gifts
totaling
almost
$41,000.
The
phonathon
goal
for
this
semester
is $50,000
in pledges
and
gifts
from
approximately
1,600
alumni.
Private gifts provide assistance in the form of scholarships,
academic,
athletic
and
cultural
enhancements,
while
also
allowing
the
University
to obtain
educational
resources
for
student
use.
For those who made pledges this year, we thank you and
look
forward
to your
pledge
fulfillment.
If you
did
