Coalition Updates

October 24, 2011

Homeowners and residents were present and discussed continued difficulties with party situations.  Residents wanted to know what they could do other than report the situation to the police department.  Students at the meeting opened up about contacting students directly.  Neighbors and students agreed there could be better communication between them concerning parties.  New Britian and CCSU Police departments continue to monitor the Belvedere section of New Britain and enforce underage drinking laws and social hosting laws.  There is a decline in the percentage of underage drinkers at the parties.  Sergeant Jerry Erwin continues to note an increase in calls from parents of CCSU students. "The parents are very thankful for being notified," said Erwin.

The Town & Gown Coalition contiues to seek greater input from landlords.  Landlords are notified when young adults are cited at their property and members of the Town & Gown want to speak with landlords about supporting efforts to reduce large parties.

CCSU staff spoke to over 350 students at a Community Expectations meeting on August 30th, included in the discussion was consequences for underage drinking.
