What to Expect: Your First Visit
Welcome. If you've decided to make an appointment with one of our counselors, this section of our site will help guide you through parts of the process that lead up to your first meeting. If you have not already set up an appointment, you may do so by calling (860) 832-1945 or by stopping by Marcus White Hall Room 205. Every effort will be made to schedule a timely appointment dependent upon your course schedule and counselor availability. We are open Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 5:00pm.
Counselors are assigned to students based upon information obtained in the intake assessment, as well as his or her caseload availability. Continuing appointments are based on progress towards goals that are outlined in the treatment plan that you will go over with your counselor. Recurring appointments can either be scheduled directly with the counselor, or through the department secretary.
It is expected that students will attend their scheduled appointments on time. If it is necessary to reschedule an appointment, the Counseling and Wellness Center office (860) 832-1945 must be notified as soon as possible with at least 24 hours notice. We ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes early for your first visit to fill out paperwork. Prior to seeing your counselor, please download and fill out the Personal Data Sheet and bring it with you to speed up the intake process.
Be sure not to save the Personal Data Sheet on a public computer.
If you have taken some of our Self-Assessments and have personal concerns, please bring the printed results with you.
For additional questions regarding your first appointment or to set one up, please contact us at (860) 832-1945. Please visit our FAQ before calling for general information, as your query may be thoroughly addressed there.
