Center for Advising and
Career Exploration
The Center for Advising and Career Exploration (CACE)
assists students in developing and implementing academic and career plans. For
new, undeclared students, the center provides pre-registration advising on
University requirements and coordinates the advising of all continuing students
who have not chosen a major. For students who are uncertain about their majors
or their career plans, the center offers several self-assessment instruments to
clarify values and to identify interests and career options. Advisors can help
students select experiential learning opportunities and refer them to the
proper departments to participate in community service, student activities,
internships, and cooperative education.
The Center for Advising and Career
Exploration assists graduating students with making the transition to
employment through workshops on resume writing, interviewing techniques, job
search strategies, and information on employment. Recruiters from major area
corporations, government agencies, and school systems visit the campus as a
part of the year-long campus recruiting program. In addition, the office
maintains listings of full- and part-time jobs that can also be accessed
through the CACE website at www.ccsu.edu/cace.
Career fairs offer opportunities to meet with employers regarding all types of
employment opportunities, co-ops, and internships. Experiential education is a
major focus, and CACE coordinates the University's Cooperative Education
Program, which is described in detail on the webpage linked here. Through this
program, students work at six-month, paid positions that are related to their
major field of study and provide them with real world experience. CACE also
helps students to access paid and unpaid internship opportunities through which
students develop professional skills and test out their career goals.
