    Susan E. Pease, Dean, School of Arts & Sciences  
    Dr. Susan E. Pease became dean of the Carol A. Ammon School of Arts and Sciences in March 2004, after serving nearly two years as interim dean. She is responsible for 21 departments representing a range of disciplines in the fine arts, the humanities, the social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, computer science, and the natural sciences. Her duties include developing and evaluating curriculum, supporting faculty scholarship and outreach, and working with other academic deans on university-wide policy issues as a member of the Academic Affairs Council of Deans.

Dr. Pease came to CCSU in 1989 as an associate professor in the department of sociology, social work, and criminal justice. She became chair of that department in 1993, and chair of criminology and criminal justice when it became its own department in 1998. As chair she oversaw development of the University’s B.A. in Criminology and M.S. in criminal justice.

Dr. Pease began her teaching career as an instructor at Westfield State College in Massachusetts. She joined the criminal justice department faculty at North Carolina Central University in 1981 and was promoted to associate professor in 1989.  
She earned a B.A. degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts, an M.S. in criminal Justice from Northeastern University and a Ph.D. in criminology from Florida State University.

Dr. Pease is an expert on drug crimes and on substance abuse treatment programs for prisoners. Her articles on these subjects appear in the 2000 edition of the Encyclopedia of Women and Crime, and in many other publications. She is frequently asked to evaluate the effectiveness of prison drug treatment programs.
Dr. Pease lives in Wethersfield with her son, John, a student at the Watkinson School in Hartford, where Dr. Pease has been an active volunteer.
