The Center for Teaching Excellence and Leadership Development

Dedicated to the Pursuit of Teaching Excellence

Scholarly teaching is what every one of us should be engaged in everyday that we are in a classroom, in our office with students, tutoring, lecturing, conducting discussion, all the roles we play pedagogically.  Our work as teachers should meet the highest scholarly standards of groundedness, of openness, of clarity and complexity.  But it is only when we step back and reflect systematically on the teaching we have done, and that systematic analysis and reflection leads to a recounting of what we've done, in a form that can be publicly reviewed and built upon by our peers that we have moved from scholarly teaching to a scholarship of teaching.
Lee Schulman, President of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning

The Center for Teaching Excellence and Leadership Development is open to all faculty and provides opportunities for people to come together in various venues to talk about teaching and discover ways to improve their teaching effectiveness.  To find out about upcoming events look for postings on either the Central Bulletin or come to this web site and go to the page for Events and Programs.

The Center's Library and Resource Center is located in 102 Barnard.  Books and other materials on pedagogy, program assessment and the scholarship of teaching and learning are available for loan.
