Sunday Maintenance – Reminder

 

Every Sunday, between 12:00am – 12:00pm, all systems will be intermittently unavailable while important maintenance and updates are performed.

 

Weekly Maintenance – Reminder

 

Please log off your computer when leaving for the day every Thursday, but do not power it off.  This will allow updates to be sent down to your computer on Friday after 12:00am.  If you turn your computer off and leave it off over night on Thursday, shortly after turning it back on, your computer will restart in order to install and apply any updates. If you leave your computer logged in Thursday night into Friday, you may lose any unsaved data you were working on when the computer restarts.

Accessing Netshares from Off-Campus

This Thursday (December 19) evening, a change will be made to allow netshare access from off-campus to all netshares (M, S, U, etc.) via one method, WebDAV. This method will replace using the VPN to access netshares such as the S and U drives. Once this change is made, the same method you currently use for accessing your M:\ from off-campus will connect you to any additional netshares such as S:\ and U:\.

Security Tips

  • Securingthehuman.org has some helpful tips on security awareness.  They have a monthly newsletter you may find helpful.  Click here to view their newsletters.  You can even subscribe and automatically receive them monthly.   • Remember to lock your computer when leaving your desk.  To do this on a Windows computer, simultaneously press the Windows Key + L

Updated Version - 9

It has come to our attention that the Windows updates which occurred last Thursday night may have automatically updated some computers to Internet Explorer 9. This version of Internet Explorer is compatible with all of our current systems except the Hyperion Workspace online reporting system. If you use Hyperion Workspace https://reporting.ccsu.edu/workspace/index.jsp , please contact the IT Help Desk so that we may roll your computer back to Internet Explorer 8.
A Hyperion upgrade is planned for early 2014 in order to fix the incompatibility issue with Internet Explorer 9 and at that time all remaining computers will be upgraded to Internet Explorer 9.

 

Software Installation Assistance

The removal of administrative rights on computers has significantly reduced virus threats on campus.  Should you need to install software, the Help Desk is just a phone call away.  Please call (860)832-1720 Monday through Thursday from 8:00am to 8:00pm and Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm.
