Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Program (URCAP)
URCAP at CCSU encompasses our Undergraduate Research Senior Awards, Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD), and the Alumni Travel Program. Students who will graduate in either Fall 2012 or 2013 and have worked on an independent research or creative project under the supervision of a CCSU faculty member are eligible to apply for the Senior Awards. Four awards are given in each of the traditional academic areas:
- Arts & Humanities
- Business, Education, and Professional Studies
- Social and Behavioral Sciences
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
The awardees in each area will receive a cash award and a trip to the National Conference for Undergraduate Research (NCUR), which this year will be in held in LaCrosse, WI. Students who wish to apply for the award must submit a resume and a brief (1000 words or less) description of their work, and arrange to have a letter of support sent by their faculty mentor. The deadline for applying for Fall 2012 is 5:00 PM, Monday, November 12. Award winners will give the opening addresses at URCAD, which this year will be held on Wednesday, May 1.
URCAD is a campus-wide showcase for student research and creative activities. General submissions for URCAD for the spring 2013 semester are now being accepted. Any student wishing to give a poster, oral, or creative presentation at URCAD should submit their proposal by Friday, April 5, 2013. URCAD takes place on May 1 2013 and will begin with keynote presentations by the senior award winners, followed by a poster presentation with lunch included for all attendees. Academic Affairs will give several awards for outstanding poster presentations.
This year, through a generous donation by the CCSU Alumni Association, CCSU students may apply for funds to present at field-specific conferences. There is no deadline for application to the Alumni Travel Award; however, awards will be made on a rolling basis until all funds are expended for the year. To apply, students must submit their abstract for the conference, notification of acceptance of the work, and a tentative budget for the travel. Awards will typically not exceed $500.
