IT Self-Help: Using Spell Check in Outlook Web Access Light

The full version of Outlook Web Access is only available through Internet Explorer. When opening Outlook Web Access in Firefox or Safari, you are automatically directed to the Light version. The Light version has fewer features and lacks built-in spell check. However, spell checking is built in to the Firefox and Safari web browsers.

Spell Check in Firefox

To enable Spell Check:

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Click on the Tools menu and select Options.
  3. Click on the Advanced button.
  4. On the General tab, click on the check box next to "Check my spelling as I type" to place a check in the box, then click on OK.

To use the built-in spell check:

  1. Firefox will check your text as you type and underline in red any words that are potentially misspelled.
  2. Right-click the underlined word (on a Mac hold the Control key and left-click on the underlined word) and you will see a list of possible corrections.
  3. Click on the correct spelling of the word or click on Add to dictionary to add the word to your custom dictionary.

Spell Check in Safari

To enable Spell Check:

    1. Open Safari.
    2. Click on the Edit menu.
    3. Point to Spelling, then click on "Check Spelling as You Type" to place a check next to this option.

To use the built-in spell check:

    1. Safari will check your text as you type and underline in red any words that are potentially misspelled.
    2. Right-click the underlined word (on a Mac hold the Control key and left-click on the underlined word) and you will see a list of possible corrections.
    3. Click on the correct spelling of the word or click on Ignore Spelling.

Spell Check in Internet Explorer

When you open Outlook Web Access in Internet Explorer, the default is the full version, which includes built-in spell check. If you select to use the Light version in Internet Explorer, you will not be able to spell check as this is not a feature in the browser.
