Change your BlueNet ID password often

Change your BlueNet ID password often:

To help ensure that your account and our networks are safe, please change your BlueNet ID password often and always use a "strong" password - one that includes letters, numbers and other characters - to make it harder to break. Do not use any part of your name, a nickname or any other password that could be easily guessed. Please reference Resetting Your BlueNet Account Password to learn how to easily change your password from any computer.

Do not share your BlueNet ID password:

Information Technology (IT) will not ask for your BlueNet Account password. If you get an e-mail message from someone purporting to be from IT asking for your password, do not respond to it and delete it. This is an old ploy designed to fool users into giving out their passwords. Please call the IT Helpdesk immediately at (860) 832-1720 and they will advise you on how to proceed. As a rule, never share your password with anyone, including OnSite Support technicians.

Secure your workstation:

Logging out of your account or locking your workstation when you walk away can save you from potentially harmful security breaches. If you do not log off of your account or lock your workstation when not in use, anyone can walk up to your machine and access your private data, e-mail account, etc.
CCSU considers the account owner fully responsible for all account activities.

Do not open attachments from strangers:

Exercise caution with e-mail attachments, and never open those from unknown sources. E-mail attachments can potentially contain viruses or Trojan horses, which can infect your machine and the CCSU network.

Do not respond to "spam":

Responding to unsolicited mail only confirms that you have an active e-mail address and could expose you to further solicitations and scams that can fill your e-mail inbox. Report any spam e-mail messages you receive to the IT "spam" abuse account by forwarding the message to: junk@spam.ccsu.edu

Outlook Web Access security:

When using our Outlook Web Access e-mail system, be sure to select the encrypted and secure link on the website to access your mailbox. When using a public terminal, such as at an Internet café, it is advised that you exit the browser when ending your Outlook Web Access session. Use caution with any unfamiliar network or machines. Although the security risk is small, always use terminals that are maintained by people you trust or ask if the terminal you are using is protected. If you use a public terminal away from the CCSU campus, be sure to change your BlueNet Account password as soon as possible from a trusted computer.
