Sam Spady:  Death by Alcohol

The Sam Spady Story is a 28 minute DVD about a college sophomore who died of binge drinking in the fall of 2004. The story is told by her parents, her friends and the medical examiner in her case.  Too many drinks and vanilla flavored vodka shots led to her death.  Binge drinking kills more than 1,400 college students each year. The epidemic is growing at high schools, colleges and universities across the nation.  This video talks about trends in female consumption, high risk drinking behavior and how the alcohol industry is changing by providing new flavored vodka to sweeten the taste. After the video, students are engaged in a discussion with the class instructor and Natural Helper student about healthy choices, safety and the realities of our drinking culture.  As incoming freshmen, this video can provide them with more education about alcohol poisoning and binge drinking. The class instructor and a Natural Helper student will also educate students about the Office of Alcohol and Drug Education and alternative activities such as Devil’s Den @10pm.
