Student Disability Services (SDS) purchased the software programs listed below. Please take the time to read about the available programs. You may find something that helps you.

 

  • Inspiration is for visual mapping, outlining, writing and making presentations. Brainstorm ideas, structure your thoughts and visually communicate concepts to strengthen understanding with the diagram and map views. To take notes, organize information, and structure writing for plans, papers and reports, use the integrated outline view to focus on main and supporting ideas and to clarify thinking in written form. With the presentation manager, transform your diagrams, mind maps and outlines into polished presentations that communicate ideas clearly and demonstrate understanding and knowledge. You can follow this link to learn more: http://www.inspiration.com/Inspiration.

  • Ghotit is a powerful English spelling and grammar checker for people with dyslexia, disgraphia and other writing difficulties. Ghotit is an add-on to Microsoft Word so it will automatically load when Microsoft Word loads. You will most likely see the Ghotit access option on the right hand side of the screen. Ghotit offers the following: context and phonetic spell checker, grammar and punctuation checker, text-to-speech, integrated word dictionary, US, UK, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand dictionaries. You can follow this link to learn more: http://www.ghotit.com.

  • Kurzweil 3000 is a comprehensive program that gives you the ability to scan a piece of text and save it in electronic format for reading. This can especially helpful for test-taking. Although we have an older version, you can still follow this link to learn more: http://www.kurzweiledu.com/higher-education.html.

 ZoomText Magnifier is currently loaded in the following location: (Marcus White Student Technology Center – 2 computers, CMWA100181 & CMWA100183, SDS – 1 computer, CEW10108014)

The Instructional Design and Technology Resource Center (IDTRC) in Willard Hall, Room 004 has the following available:

  • Dragon Naturally is a speech recognition software program. Although they have an older version, you can still follow this link to learn more: http://www.nuance.com/dragon/index.htm.
  • Note-taking software: the IDTRC offers trials of the Livescribe PULSE Smartpen, ACECAD Digimemo L2 Notepad and IOGear Mobile Digital Scribe.
