Summer Programs
TRiO ETS College Exploration Program
Grades: 9-12 (in 2013-2014)
Participating Districts: New Britain
The College Exploration Program (CEP) has been designed to provide a two-week experience that will expose high school students to college academia; motivate them to graduate from high school and continue on into postsecondary education. CEP classes are led by Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) professors. Participating students will additionally participate in daily seminars on preparing for the college experience and will stay overnight in a CCSU residence hall. Students with consistent attendance who complete all of the requirements of the program, will earn .5 high school credit. CEP is completely free, including lunch daily, and is funded by the CCSU TRiO ETS grant. Only admitted TRiO ETS students who attend New Britain High School are eligible to attend. 2013 CEP dates are July 15-26, 2013, with a required Parent & Student Orientation on Monday, June 24, 2013 at 6:30 p.m.

Metacomet Ridge Interdistrict Program
Grades: 7-12 (in 2013-2014)
Participating Districts: New Britain, Avon, Cromwell, Farmington, Hartford, Granby, Rocky Hill, Enfield, and other CREC region districts.
In this program, students from a wide variety of diverse backgrounds collaborate on an interdisciplinary, geographic study of the Metacomet Ridge. Through field studies, interschool visits and exchanges of information gained through technology, students acquire highly technical scientific skills and use technology and scientific equipment to collect information. Teams of students collect, organize and analyze data to produce reports for the Connecticut State Department of Environmental Protection and develop presentations about their findings. This program builds critical thinking, technology competency, scientific understanding, scientific research and many other skills. Preference goes to students who are enrolled in the TRiO ETS Program. 2013 program dates will be July 8-31, 2013.

TRiO ETS Ocean Explorers Program
Grades: 6-8
Participating Districts: New Britain
Students will learn about the role of a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) in ocean exploration, during this one-week program on CCSU's campus. Under the supervision of a CCSU professor, students will build and drive a SeaPerch underwater robot and explore how images of the titanic were used to solve the mystery. On the last day of the program, students will visit the Mystic Institute for Exploration and the USS Nautilus SSN 571 (first nuclear submarine). The Ocean Explorers program is completely free, including a daily lunch, and is funded by the CCSU TRiO ETS grant. Only admitted TRiO ETS students who attend a middle school in New Britain are eligible to attend.
