Teaching Reading and Writing Strategies for the Common core within your Discipline

Course Description:
This workshop will share disciplinary literacy strategies for content area teachers (grades 6-12) to ALIGN their curriculum and instruction with the Common Core Standards (CCSS). Not all teachers need to be “teachers of  reading and writing,” but all teachers do need to help students, read, write, and think within their discipline (science, history, English, humanities). Participants will bring text samples and writing assignments from their content to analyze and plan targeted instruction in response to student needs and the CCSS. Participants will walk away with evidence-based literacy strategies to integrate into their classrooms right away.
