Grants and Awards

Beverly Koerner Research Award: Two $500.00 grants to encourage nursing research efforts by chapter members. The primary Investigator must be an active member, but non-members can be a part of the research team. Faculty members engaged in doctoral studies from the three Universities are encouraged to apply. Preference is given to beginning researchers (those who have not published as a principal investigator) and to those individuals who have limited or no institutional support for research efforts. Interested applicants should submit a research proposal for blind review. Deadline for submission is January 1, 2014 and awards will be presented in the spring.

Iota Upsilon Chapter Research Award: to graduate students: Three $500 grants will be awarded to current graduate students in member universities. Students working on doctoral dissertations, and/or master’s theses are encouraged to apply. Interested applicants should submit a research proposal for blind review. Deadline for submission is January 1, 2014 and award will be presented in the spring.

Terry Bosworth Global Nursing Award: A non-research grant for up to $2000 for special projects focusing on the enhancement of international nursing efforts. The principle applicant must be an active member and the efforts must include students from a member institution. Interested applicants should submit a proposal for blind review. Deadline for submission is January 1, 2014 and award will be presented in the spring.

Iota Upsilon Chapter Award for Excellence in Nursing Practice: A $200 award to recognize an active chapter member for outstanding contributions to nursing practice, either through direct patient/ client care or for leadership in a clinical setting. The purpose of the award is to honor expertise among chapter members whose primary contribution to the nursing profession is through direct patient care. Summary statements of nomination must be 500 words or less. Deadline for submission is January 1, 2014 and award will be presented in the spring.

Witt- Haloburdo Mentorship Award: A $200 award recognizes a skilled and experienced nurse, serving as a role model, who teaches, sponsors, encourage, counsels and guides a protégé thereby promoting the latters’ professional and/or personal development. The nominator must be a member of Iota Upsilon Chapter at Large, but the nominee may be any professional nurse, on or outside of the chapter. Summary statement of nomination must be 500 words or less. Deadline for submission is January 1, 2014 and award will be presented in the spring.

Jonathan Boros Nursing Scholarship: A $250 faculty-nominated award to honor an RN to BSN student, who is either a male or a veteran of the armed forces who is passionate about his/her nursing practice. Nominees must exemplify the pillars of Sigma Theta Tau: service, professional endeavor and strength in leadership and demonstrate excellence in academic achievement, strong leadership, high nursing standards, creativity in nursing practice, and commitment to the ideals of the profession. The nominator must be a member of Iota Upsilon Chapter at Large, but nominee may be in or outside of the Chapter. Deadline for submission is January 1, 2014 and award will be presented in the spring.

MacRae Nursing Student Leadership Award: Six (6) $250 faculty-nominated awards to honor students who exemplify the ideals of Sigma Theta Tau: superior academic achievement, strong leadership qualities, the practice of high nursing standards, creativity in nursing practice, and commitment to the ideals of the profession. The awards are presented to two students from each institution of Iota Upsilon (Central Connecticut State University, University of Saint Joseph, University of Hartford) at the annual induction ceremony.
