The Latino University Success Program at CCSU


What is the Latino USP?

The Latino University Success Program (Latino USP) is a competitive state program authorized by the Connecticut Department of Higher Education and is implemented by the Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Center (LALCC) at Central Connecticut State University. This summer college readiness program aims to provide Latino and Hispanic freshmen students with the guidance and support they will need to pursue successfully their educational and career development at the University.

Students in this unique five-week program will have the opportunity to earn four (4) academic credits, free of cost, prior to the start of their freshman year. This program is designed to help students develop a stronger academic foundation and includes classes in Study Skills, Mathematics, Health Education, Technology Skills, English,  and Counseling.                  

 In addition, Latino USP participants will be provided with:
  • Free on-campus residence accommodations for the duration of the program
  • Free breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • Free cultural activities and trips

Latino USP 2013 Dates to Remember:

Orientation Day and Placement Exams: Saturday, June 22nd

Move-in Day: Sunday, June 30th

Duration of Program: Monday, July 1 - Friday, August 2nd

Move-out Day and Placement Exams: Friday, August 2, 2013

Closing and Awards Ceremony: Saturday, August 3, 2013

 Who's Eligible?

The Department of Higher Education requires that  admission priority is granted to eligible applicants who have been participants in the Department's precollege initiatives - the Connecticut Collegiate Awareness and Preparation (ConnCAP) Program and the Connecticut State GEAR UP Project.

To be eligible for applying to the Latino University Success Program, students must be of Latino or Hispanic heritage and meet the following criteria established by the U.S. Department of Education:

  •  be a Connecticut resident
  •  be admitted to CCSU as a full-time, first-time, student for the fall semester
  •  demonstrate financial need
  •  demonstrate academic need

Application Process

We are currently accepting applications to fill 25 spots open to eligble students. To apply, click the link below to access the online application page. Once you complete and submit your application, you will have the option to provide your email adress to have a confirmation message stating that your application has been submitted emailed to. Applications will be reviewed on a first-come-first-served basis. If you are found eligble to participate in the Latino University Success Program, an acceptance letter will be mailed to you.
