Central’s Competition For a Cause

Q. What is CCFC?
A. Competition For A Cause is a charity in which various clubs, organizations, faculty, administration at CCSU can participate, along with the town of New Britain, to collect food items and gift cards for multiple food banks in the New Britain area.  This competition will begin November 1st and end November 14th. On November 16th, a banquet will be held at Central Connecticut State University for all those who participated in this wonderful charity competition!  At this banquet, those who collected the most points in their categories will receive certificates and the overall will win a trophy!

Q. How do I participate?
A. In order to be a part of this competition you must register your group by sending an email Simms Sonet, simmssonet@my.ccsu.edu or Michelle Zohlman, michellezohlman@my.ccsu.edu, OR attend an information session to sign up.

Q. When are information sessions and what are they about?
A. Information sessions are optional and will take place on Monday, October 22 and Thursday, October 25, at 4:30 pm, in the SGA Office in the Student Center. These information sessions will provide more information on Competition For A Cause and let you sign up for the competition (if you did not via email). All those who want to participate, as well as those who are participating, are welcome to attend these sessions.

Q. How are you going to get the food to the pantries?
A. It has been organized that catering vans, along with volunteers, will transport the food to the pantries before Thanksgiving.

Q. How does the actual competition part work?
A. All donations will be given a point value depending on what is donated. There will also be categories in which each group will be classified.

Q. How is food collected?
A. For CCSU competitors, there will be food bins around campus located at Kaiser, the Student Center, and Memorial Hall as well as in every department.

Q. Which Food Banks are the donated items going to?
A. Spanish Speaking Center, New Britain Food and Resource Center, St. Mark's, St. Mary's, New Beginnings Ministries, Tabernacle Baptist Church, Stanley Memorial Fountain of Life Church, 7th Day Adventist Church, Friendship Center, First Lutheran Church, Isaiah 58, Herald Square Food Share Truck, St. Anne's Parking Lot Food Share Truck, and Malinowski Circle Food Share Truck.
