Transportation
1. Travel to Hartford by Public Transportation
Bradley International Airport (BDL) is the closest. Alternatives are Boston, Providence, New York City (JFK and La Guardia), and Newark, which are all two to three hours away by car. There are also smaller airports in New Haven, CT and in White Plains, NY, which are closer and are sometimes convenient.
Amtrak brings you to Hartford’s Union Station, with easy access from Washington DC, NYC and Boston. Metro North has lower rates, but only brings you from NYC as far as New Haven.
Peter Pan also comes into Union Station in Hartford, and has some express service from NYC and Boston.
2. Local Travel to Lodging and/or CCSU's campus
For directions to CCSU click here. To see the campus map click here.
The airport websites have links to car-rental companies. If you come into Union Station by train or bus, you can call 860-524-1411. This is the telephone number of the Enterprise car-rental office at 4 Weston Street, Hartford, CT 06120. They will send someone to pick you up (only during their business hours M - F 7:30 am - 6:00 pm and 9:00 am - noon on Saturdays).
All recommended hotels have free shuttle survices within five miles from the hotel but they do not provide shuttle survice to Bradley International Airport.
The Bradley airport website provides information and contacts. Unlike in NYC, taxis usually need to be reserved unless you are at the airport or at Union Station in Hartford. A taxi from the airport to Farmington, where all conference hotels are, is $62 and is fixed (state regulated) and a taxi from the Union Station is around $30.
The CT transit service from Bradley is not terrific and would involve changing buses in Hartford. It is cheap, however, especially for seniors.
