Dear Member of the Class of 2014,

Congratulations on your graduation from Central Connecticut State University, and welcome to the family of over 68,000 CCSU alumni.

The Commencement Exercises will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m., at the XL Center in Hartford.  This guide contains information regarding participation in the ceremony, including ordering academic regalia which is required for participation in the ceremony.  Please take time to review the information now.

Please pay immediate attention to the Cap & Gown Order form, and the ordering deadline, to ensure that you will have the appropriate cap & gown for the ceremony, and to avoid late charges.

Questions pertaining to graduation eligibility requirements, degree evaluations, honors and all other academic matters should be directed to the Registrar’s Office.  The office is located in Davidson Hall, Room 116; telephone: (860) 832-2236 or e-mail: regstaff@ccsu.edu.

Academic Cap & Gown/Registration

Students must be attired in an appropriate cap & gown to participate in the commencement exercises. If you will be participating but have regalia please follow the instructions you receive in the email that will be sent to your CCSU email address..

Bachelor's Candidates
Bachelor’s Gown, Cap & '14 Tassel - $47.00

Cap & Gown orders must be received, at CENtix, by Thursday, April 10, 2014 to avoid the late fee.

Order information will be sent to your CCSU email address with a link that will allow you to order online. Orders received after the April 10th deadline will be charged a $25.00 late fee.  No orders will be accepted after Wednesday, April 30, 2014

In-person Payment:

Cash, credit card (VISA, MASTERCARD, DISCOVER), BlueChip, check or money order, payable to the CCSU Student Center, must be included with your order. An administrative fee of $20.00 will be collected for returned checks.

Green Weaver Regalia - CCSU is proud to be using a new line of eco-friendly gowns made from 100 percent, post-consumer recycled plastic bottles.   This year, we will order approximately 1,250 gowns which mean we are responsible for keeping approximately 28,750 plastic bottles out of landfills. 

 

  Cap & Gown Distribution 

Caps & gowns will be available for pickup in the Student Center, Alumni Hall during the dates and times listed below. Your name card along with specific line up instructions will also be distributed. If you are unable to pick up your cap & gown, a family member or friend may pick it up for you. Caps & gowns will not be available for distribution at the XL Center.

Count Me In

Leave one last mark on the campus before you graduate by supporting the 2014 graduate giving program Count Me In. The program asks members of the Class of 2014 to donate at least $20.14 to any fund or department you wish. All donors at the $20.14 level and above receive a Class of 2014 lapel pin which is only available through the 2014 Count Me In program.  Click here to make your gift.

Physical Disabilities

Graduating students with physical disabilities who plan to participate in the commencement exercises should contact the Office of Student Activities & Leadership Development at (860) 832-1990 as soon as possible prior to commencement.  
   

Commencement Exercises 

^TOP

Participating students will assemble by academic school (Arts & Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering & Technology), by 9:15 a.m., in the East Exhibition Hall, located on the lower level of the XL Center. The best way to get to the lower level is by using the stairs or elevator from the Center Court of the XL Center (Church and Trumbull or Trumbull Street entrances). University personnel will be present to assist you with line up by school.

The Commencement ceremony will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. on May 17, 2014. To ensure a timely start, the procession of graduates will begin at 10:15 a.m. sharp.

There is no secure place to store personal belongings at the XL Center. Please arrange for family members or friends to hold your personal items.

Security Procedures

  1. All guests and graduates must enter XL Center through Trumbull Street entrance.
  2. XL Center will open at 8:30 am; due to potential for security-related delays, all should aim to arrive earlier than usual.
  3. All will pass through security screening on the way into the coliseum.
  4. Faculty and commencing students should NOT robe until after they have passed through security; those in robes will be asked to remove them before proceeding through security.
  5. No backpacks or large handbags will be allowed into the Center; some handbags may be searched.
  6. Re-entry into the Center will not be permitted.
  7. For Faculty/Staff taking the CCSU bus to Hartford.
    1. Bus leaves by 8:45 am.
    2. Security precautions will be taken before boarding.
 
   

Parking

Hartford area parking lots and garages will be open for commencement parking at the driver’s expense.  
   

Photographs at Commencement 

^TOP

Photographs will be taken as the graduates receive their diploma covers at the ceremony. Guests will not be permitted on the coliseum floor.

Graduates will receive a color proof, at no charge, and will have an opportunity to purchase several optional packages of prints at competitive prices. You can pre-register your e-mail address, and Grad Images will notify you when your photos are available for online viewing and ordering. To pre-register please click here. Click on the Pre-Event Registration tab to enter up to 6 e-mail addresses for family and friends. Grad Images will contact you just as soon as the photos are available.

 
   

Admission to the XL Center

The doors to the XL Center guest seating will open at 8:30 a.m.
No tickets are required for guests and there is no limit to the number of guests. There are no reserved seats; guests may sit wherever they choose. The best seats fill quickly so time your arrival accordingly. Ushers will be available to assist with seating.

No large bags or backpacks will be permitted. Bags may be searched on entry.
Guests with physical disabilities should identify themselves to an XL Center usher for assistance. Please note that the XL Center does not have wheel chairs available. Direct questions regarding handicapped accessibility to:

Ceremony & Facility Protocol

Possession and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages in the XL Center is strictly prohibited. Alcohol containers will be confiscated. Individuals violating this policy will be denied admission to the commencement ceremony. Please respect all graduates and their guests - silence all electronic devices and remain seated until the ceremony concludes.

XL Center personnel reserve the right to remove any guest for inappropriate behavior.

 
   

Diplomas

Diplomas will be mailed to graduates upon completion of degree requirements. Students who participate in the commencement exercises will be presented with a diploma cover during the ceremony.

Students who do not participate may pick up a diploma cover in the Registrar’s Office after Monday, May 19, 2014.

Diploma covers cannot be mailed and must be picked up in person.
