| CCSU Student Discovers Apple Security Flaw; Makes National News |

It’s not often Apple finds a significant security issue in its software, so it became big news--carried on TV stations from Alaska to Rhode Island and some 30 states in between--when CCSU computer science student Mark S. Smith recently found one.
“It still blows my mind that I’m the only one who found it,” says Smith, who expects to graduate in about a year and then start his own software business.
Smith had installed Apple’s Remote Desktop Software
to access his home computer from his laptop. While probing its security strength, Smith found that data sent between his two computers, including his passwords, were not encrypted as the company promised. Realizing a major concern, he contacted the computer giant in July. When Apple issued the fix to its customers it credited “CCSU student Mark S. Smith” for the discovery. |
