Load & Fire Competition
Civil War soldiers proficient at arms were able to fire three shots in a minute. This involved readying their weapon, taking a powder catridge from their box, tearing off the top, pouring the black powder down the muzzle, seating a lead ball with the ram rod, placing a percussion cap, then firing.
At the Wickham Park Encampment we are going to offer a rare challenge to our reenactors. Who can load and fire the fastest in 2 minutes? Will it be a Reb or a Blue Belly?
Judges will provide points for each shot and for where a soldier is in the process when time runs out.
The top three soldiers will receive bragging rights and prizes. First place is a beautiful black powder rifle donated by Hoffman Gun Center.
