The Battle of Fredericksburg – Mayre’s Heights

Coming off their nominal victory at Antietam, in December 1862 Union troops attempted to take Fredericksburg, VA.

Moving through the town didn’t prove difficult, but when attempting to storm the horseshoe shaped heights behind the village Union soldiers were met with a hail of lead from Confederate sharpshooters and artillery. It was a disastrous end to the year.

In this second battle of the Wickham Park encampment, Confederate reenactors will amass behind a long stone wall at the top of a sloping hill, much like the real Mayre’s Heights, and rain down fire upon Union troops as they try to overrun the rebel line. The action will be up close and very personal.
