The Battle of Antietam – The Sunken Road

The most horrific 24 hours in American history. Some 23,000 men were killed and wounded in this most deadly day in our nation’s past.

Civil War reenactors will portray the famous battle that occurred at the site of the Sunken Road, where Confederates were barricaded behind a patch work of fencing as Union regiments marched into deadly fire. This is where the CT 14th regiment received its baptism under fire, having had only a couple of weeks of training before entering the killing fields.

This will be a large scale action with hundreds of troops and extensive cannon fire. The battle will occur on a deep sloping hill that overlooks the City of Hartford and reenactors will actually recreate the Sunken Road, or Bloody Lane, as it is often called.
