Unity Camp – Temperance Rally
Unity is the name of the civilian camp, located between the armies of the North and South. Witness a temperance rally, where women will chastise the evil of drink. A popular cause throughout the 19th Century, temperance was a driving force of the social reform movement.
Not everyone, of course, agreed and arguments ensued. Soldiers, in particular, were fond of alcohol as a way to escape from the war and relieve boredom in camp. And they don’t take lightly the temperance rally that occurs on this day. Come and see the sparks fly.
