Helen Bichum Trust Scholarship for Continuing Sophomore, Junior, Senior and Graduate Students 

 

The Trust is designed to assist students with disabilities, who are currently registered with the Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) Office of Student Disability Services, with the cost of tuition and fees, room and board expenses, and books. In addition, the Trust provides support to assist students with the cost of adaptive technologies such as speech enabled computers for blind or visually impaired students, blinking lights and vibration devices to help hearing impaired students, robotic arms and other assistive devices for people with dexterity or mobility impairment, and software to help students with learning and developmental disabilities deal more effectively with reading and writing tasks.

 

How much?

Scholarships are awarded each academic year and range from $500 to $1000 each.

 

Who is eligible to apply?

Continuing, matriculated Sophomore, Junior, Senior and Graduate Students of CCSU with documented disabilities on file with the Office of Student Disability Services who are currently registered for a minimum of 6 credits.  Students must have completed the previous academic year (Fall/Spring) at CCSU.

 

Criteria?

  • Grade point average must be 2.8 or better. The Office of Student Disability Services will evaluate your grades from the previous academic year (Fall/Spring).

  • Two letters of recommendation are required from current/former faculty, dean, or department chairperson.

  • Well written essay, minimum of 300 words, “What are your future goals? How will the scholarship money assist you in achieving your goals?” Please prepare essay using a computer and attach to the application.
