CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY'S
SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICY STATEMENT:
Central
Connecticut State University is committed to providing learning and working
environment that emphasizes the dignity and worth of every member of its
community, free from discriminatory conduct or communication. Sexual harassment
in any form is inimical to this and will not be tolerated.
For the
purpose of this policy statement, "Sexual Harassment" is defined as any
repeated, unwelcome sexual advance, request for sexual favors or any conduct of
a sexual nature when: 1) submission to or rejection of such conduct is made
either explicitly or implicitly the basis, term, or condition of any
individual's employment, or a factor in an individual's grade, evaluation,
promotion or retention; or 2) such conduct has the purpose or effect of
unreasonably interfering with an individual's work performance or creating an
intimidating, hostile, offensive learning, or working environment.
In
determining whether alleged conduct constitutes sexual harassment, the
University will look at the totality of circumstances, such as the nature of the
sexual advances and the context in which the alleged incidents occurred. The
determination of the legality of the particular action will be made from facts,
on a case-by-case basis. The University will take immediate and appropriate
corrective action based on the findings of each case.
It is the
responsibility of the President of the University to maintain the University as
a learning and working environment free of sexual harassment and intimidation.
The Chief Diversity Officer has been designated as the coordinator of
investigations of sexual harassment complaints. Deans, directors, department
heads, chairpersons, and supervisors share responsibility for the implementation
of the University policy in regard to sexual harassment in their units.
Accountability for compliance with this policy, as with all other University
policies, will be part of their regular performance evaluation.
All members of Central Connecticut State
University's workforce are expected to conduct themselves in keeping with the
policy of prohibiting sexual harassment.
