Graduate Student Association Funding for Travel, Research and Graduate Societies


The Graduate Student Association funds scholarships for Conference and Travel,  and Research.  The purpose of these scholarships is to help subsidize the cost of conference attendance and research done by graduate students in support of their education.  Graduate Societies may also apply for funds from the GSA.

All Scholarship Applications or Society Budget Requests can be dropped off at the Graduate School Office in Henry Barnard Hall, Room 102.  Other arrangements can be made by e-mailing the GSA president at st_br7664@mail.ccsu.edu. Society Budget Request must be completed by October 30th, 2012.


How to Apply for a Grant 

1) Obtain and fill out a Graduate Student Association Conference Travel & Research Scholarship Request Form.

    • Read our constitution
    • Forms can be obtained from the Graduate Studies Office, Barnard 102 or by clicking the above link.
    • Be sure to fill out the entire form.
    • Attach any informative documents such as travel / lodging quotes, as well as registration materials and information

2) Return form to the Graduate Studies Office, Barnard Hall Room 102, at least 10 days prior to a GSA Executive Board meeting. Dates of the meetings are on the GSA homepage at http://www.ccsu.edu/page.cfm?p=1280

3) The GSA does not facilitate reimbursement, applications should be submitted and approved prior to making any travel arrangements.

4) Please be sure to include your e-mail address or phone number for questions that may arise during the review of your application.

5) The Vice President of Finance will contact you to discuss the approval status of your application by e-mail or phone within a week of GSA meetings.

6) When a scholarship award is approved by the GSA, it is forwarded to the University Scholarship Committee for approval, which normally occurs at the beginning of each month. Once approved, the award is posted to the student’s pipeline account and then mailed as a reimbursement check to the student’s official address as noted in the University’s registrar’s system.

7) Once you have been approved documents will be mailed to you.  The funds will be credited to the balance on your University Account.  If you have a $0 balance, the funds will be mailed to you in a check.

8) You have 30 days after the conference or research project completion to provide receipts to the Office of Student Activities/Leadership Development or your university account will be charged the scholarship amount.

 
Policies Governing Grants
  • The GSA does not support reimbursements.  Applications must be submitted and approved prior to making any travel arrangements.
  • Graduate students are allowed three scholarships (any combination of research/conference) per graduate degree.
  • Conference scholarships may not exceed $1,000.   Research scholarships may not exceed $500.
  • GSA looks to fund those scholarships that benefit graduate students in their program of study and the campus as a whole, not those requests which are personal in nature.
Graduate Student Society Budget Requests
  • Complete the Society Budget Request Form, including all requested information, signatures and materials as appropriate for your budget request.
  • Submit the Budget Request Form and all materials to the GSA Vice President of Finance by October 30th, 2012
  • You may receive an invitation to attend a finance committee meeting for final budget approval.  The President and/or Treasurer of the society must attend the Finance Committee Meeting for approval.  Subsequently, at least one member of each Graduate Society must attend GSA Finance Meetings.  Failure to do so will render the society budget frozen.
  • Please allow 30 days from submission of budget requests for approval.
