Two members of the University’s English Department received the Excellence in Teaching Awards earlier in March: David Cappella, a poet and author, won the award for full-time faculty, and Amanda Greenwell received the adjunct-faculty award. | Community Central & CCSU Offer Free Walk-in Wellness Clinics |

| CCSU senior nursing students and students from the New Britain Health Academy have been hosting free walk-in clinics at Community Central in downtown New Britain. The clinics, offered Mondays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., provide a range of services from blood-sugar and cholesterol level check, to weight-loss counseling, and even relaxing foot soaks. The clinic is open free to anyone in the New Britain community who is 18 or older, whether they feel well or not. The Center is directed by Hannah Hurwitz and Assistant Professor of Nursing Stacy Christensen supervises the student nurses. |

CCSU President Jack Miller (r) and Travelers Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis Anthony Torsiello dedicated the Travelers Lecture Hall in Vance Academic Center in late February. The dedication recognized Travelers’ strong support of CCSU and its students. President Miller noted: “We are deeply grateful to Travelers for its support of Central Connecticut State University. Travelers’ support has been essential to our ability to help our students achieve their educational goals.”

Wednesday, April 25: Alumni Reception for Class of 2012 Young alumni who graduated between 2009 and 2011 are invited to a reception in honor of the Class of 2012 on Wednesday, April 25 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Constitution Room, Memorial Hall. The event provides the opportunity for renewing friendships and networking. Refreshments will be served. | The event will take place on Saturday April 28, a reception will be held at 5:30 P.M. in Bellin Gallery (in the Student Center) before the play which will start at 7:00 P.M. Tickets are $20 per person and you can pick them up at the reception. Due to the size of the venue, a limited number of tickets are available. Saturday, May 5 Join us for a Kentucky Derby/Cinco de Mayo Party at Shea’s American Bar and Grill, 103 Tolland Turnpike Manchester, CT. The party begins at 3:00 p.m. and features food, Derby giveaways and a cash bar. Winners OTB, which is located at Shea’s, will provide attendees (21 and over only!) the opportunity to place a wager on the derby and other races taking place around the country that day. The CCSU Alumni Association Awards recognize alumni and friends for achievements, career accomplishments, involvement in the community, and service to the University. May 11-12 “Women, Leaders, & Leadership:” The 21st-Annual June Baker Higgins Conference and the Inaugural “Women of Influence Gala” will take place on May 11-12. The conference will address a wide range of issues, including politics, social justice, economics, education, health care, fine arts, religion, business, violence and conflict resolution, and racial equality. The inaugural gala will honor women who have significantly impacted CCSU or the made a significant contribution in the lives of women. Proceeds will benefit scholarships. Tickets $100.00 per person, $175.00 per couple.
