The Arts and Sciences Academy for the Public Understanding of Science is dedicated to communicating science to the public in a way that conveys its nature, its excitement, and its importance. It will do so without the oversimplifications and exaggerations that are all too common in the popular media, but will maintain the rigorous scholarship that science demands and that makes it the valuable area of inquiry that it is.
Academy activities will include:
- This website, which will update information, activities, comments, and links
- University courses, intitially under Anthropology 475, that will have a rotating series of topics
- An interdisciplinary lecture series, with speakers from Central and from other institutions
- Public outreach vehicles, to include talks, articles, books, and, perhaps, a regular conference and electronic media
For more information, please contact Dr. Michael Park, Department of Anthropology, Coordinator for the Academy.
