Maintaining Legal Status
All non-resident aliens present in the United States are responsible for maintaining proper immigration status at all times. Non-resident alien employees of Central Connecticut State University are responsible for maintaining valid work authorization throughout the duration of employment. Failure to maintain valid work authorization prohibits CCSU from continuing to employ an individual.
This policy applies to all individuals appointed to full-time or part-time teaching (AAUP), administrative faculty (SUOAF-AFSCME, Admin III and higher), and Management appointments at CCSU. This policy covers both temporary work authorizations and employment-based immigrant status - green card.
Non-resident alien employees of Central Connecticut State University are responsible for the following:
- Maintaining proper immigration status at all times;
- Maintaining work authorization at all times;
- Ensuring that all re-entry paperwork is in order prior to departing the U.S. for personal or professional reasons;
- Filing all forms related to any/all dependents s/he may have in the U.S. or with the intention to join him/her in the U.S.;
- Receiving reimbursement only for transportation and accommodation cost for a presentation or lecture;
- Seeking advice from immigration professionals such as an immigration attorney on all immigration-related matters;
- H-1B status is employee specific: CCSU employees cannot accept compensation (including honoraria) from any other employer unless an H-1B petition has been filed on their behalf.
If traveling outside of the United States, the faculty members must obtain a new H-1B visa stamp at the U.S. Embassy.
