CCSU Alumni Educators Continue Trend of Excellence

David Bosso MA '08, a social studies teacher at Berlin High School for the past 13 years, was named Connecticut's 2012 Teacher of the Year. Douglas Hutton MA '04 was named the Milken Educator of the Year, one of the nation's preeminent awards and coming with a $25,000 check.More information on Bosso here and on Hutton here.

As noted previously, this has been a particularly rich year in teaching awards and honors for CCSU alumni. Expect a fuller story on "Teaching Excellence" in the Spring Central Focus.

CCSU Alumni Association Donates $75,000 to CCSU
The CCSU Alumni Association has made a generous $75,000 gift to support a range of programs, including Community Central, a student-run "store-front" in New Britain providing CCSU students with opportunities to become leaders in helping community businesses and residents. The funds will also be used for scholarship support for CCSU students with significant financial needs.
President Miller Speaks about CCSU in Time of Change
Layoffs, budget cuts, and the reorganization of higher education in Connecticut have contributed plenty to the stress levels of the campus community, but during President Jack Miller’s Opening Meeting, held in late August, he presented a strong argument for why change can be good for both the institution and students.
Recounting the University’s recent achievements, Miller said “We are not changing because we’re broken,” he said. “We’re making changes from a position of strength. We are doing well,” he emphasized and added, “Demonstrably, provably well.” Read full story here.
Check Out the Homecoming 2011 Photo Gallery
It was wet and windy, but that didn't dampen Blue Devil spirits as CCSU alumni, their families, and CCSU students enjoyed the fun and camaraderie of Homecoming 2011.

We hope you'll join us again next year to renew friendships and celebrate your University. Click on the image above to see the Homecoming 2011 slide show. Be sure to check out the pictures of the person that CCSU students are calling the "Coolest president ever."
