Esselstyns' Health Lecture, Feb 28

Date: Tuesday - February 28, 2012
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: Student Center, Alumni Hall

NEW BRITAIN, CT – Esteemed physician, Olympic Gold Medalist and author of more than 150 scientific publications Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn will speak at Central Connecticut State University on February 28th at 7 p.m. in the Student Center’s Alumni Hall. Joining him will be his wife Ann Esselstyn and their son Rip Esselstyn – a favorite Dr. Oz Show guest. The event, free of charge and open to the public, will focus on the proven health benefits of a plant-based diet, including the avoidance of heart disease and other chronic medical conditions.

Dr. Esselstyn received his B.A. from Yale University and his M.D. from Western Reserve University.  In 1956, he was awarded the Gold Medal in men’s eights at the Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia.  He authored the book Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease: The Revolutionary, Scientifically Proven, Nutrition-Based Cure in 2008, which collects his successful and ground-breaking study in arresting and reversing coronary heart disease in very ill patients. In 2010, after undergoing cardiac surgery, former US President Bill Clinton acknowledged and implemented Dr. Esselstyn’s plant-based diet in his own life. Dr. Esselstyn and his wife Ann have been practicing the same diet since the mid-1980s.

Rip Esselstyn is an accomplished author and nutritionist in his own right.  As a firefighter in Austin, TX, he changed the lives of his fellow firefighters by helping them adopt his simple but effective 28-Day Save-Your-Life-Plan, outlined in his book The Engine 2 Diet.  He has concocted countless healthy recipes based on wholesome ingredients like whole grains, fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts that are proven to lower cholesterol and lead to a healthier, happier lifestyle.  His methods have been featured on the Dr. Oz show and The Today Show.  Esselstyn also serves on the Board of Directors for The Wellness Foundation, EarthSave’s Meals for Health Program, and the AllergyKids Foundation.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from the Esselstyns about their extensive studies and proven wellness methods.
