Media & Trauma After Newtown, Ap 3

Date: Wednesday - April 03, 2013
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Marcus White Living Room

On Wednesday April 3rd, Vance Chair in Journalism and Mass Communications and host of WNPR’s Where We Live John Dankosky will host a discussion about tragedy with renowned journalists from the Los Angeles Times, the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma, and WNPR.

On December 14, 2012, in the second deadliest school shooting in American history, Adam Lanza fatally shot twenty children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. First responders arrived at the school within minutes and journalists arrived shortly thereafter.

Panelists Bruce Shapiro, executive director of the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma, Tina Susman, national correspondent for the Los Angeles Times, who has covered war in Iraq, Somalia and Rwanda; and WNPR reporter Jeff Cohen, who covered the Newtown shooting and its aftermath for NPR, will discuss the media's role and its boundaries when reporting on tragic events. Guests will assess the impact of this work on journalists.

The event, a discussion and Q&A, will be held in the Marcus White Living Room, Marcus White Hall at Central Connecticut State University. A reception is to be held at 6 PM, and the program will begin at 7 PM.
