Kids' Lit Quiz
The Kids' Lit Quiz (KLQ) is an annual literature competition for children aged 10 to 13. It puts readers onto the stage and lets them compete for fantastic prize. The quiz has heats in New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom, South Africa, Canada, China, Singapore, and the United States of America. Winning teams qualify for national and world finals. The Kids' Lit Quiz is not for profit and runs entirely by volunteers.
The US began its involvement with the KLQ in 2011 when children from New Britain Public Schools helped pilot the US program. Since then the 2012 US winning team competed in the World Finals in New Zealand, the 2013 US winners competed in Durban, South Africa, and the 2014 winning team competed in Cornwall, England. In 2015 the US finals were held in Connecticut on the CCSU campus.
The Kids' Lit Quiz National Coordinator in the US is Dr. Catherine Kurkjian, Professor of Reading and Language Arts in the Department of Literacy, Elementary, and Early Childhood Education at CCSU.
