Graduate Internship: |
|
Position: Graduate Internship for
students enrolled in the Student Development in Higher Education
graduate program.
|
|
Terms:
Full Time, 12 months |
|
Compensation: $18,000 per year, course fees
waiver, insurance (if needed) |
|
Starting Date: June, 2007
|
|
The CCSU Learning Center is engaged in innovative approaches to academic
support in collaboration with departments in both Academic Affairs and
Student Affairs. |
|
The CCSU Learning Center Graduate Internship prepares students for a
wide range of career opportunities in higher education. Graduate
Interns apply student development theory, learning theory and research
in progressively more responsible work experiences in The Learning
Center over the two years of the graduate program. The main focus of
the two-year internship is to train and develop young professionals who
will positively contribute to the field of Student Affairs.

During the first year of
the Internship, the incumbent will:
|
- Provide direct
academic support service to students
- assist in the development
and delivery of training programs for undergraduate Tutors and the
TLC work study program
- Coordinate and
present special programs, workshops and presentations offered
through The Learning Center
- Facilitate the transition
of students with disabilities from their previous academic
environment to CCSU
- Assist in the teaching
of study skills
courses.
- Administer
Placement testing

The scope of the work and level of responsibility increases for the
second year Intern. In addition to responsibilities listed above, the
second year Intern will: |
- Provide
mentorship for the first year Intern
- Represent TLC on
campus wide committees
- Create and
update web services and information
- Assist with the
development and implementation of improvements to all services and
programs
- Conduct program
evaluation and assessment
- Participate in the
hiring, training and supervision of TLC staff.

Qualifications: Bachelors Degree
with a minimum 2.70 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). Candidates must have an
application on file for acceptance in the CCSU Student Development in
Higher Education graduate program. Experience in a tutoring and/or
learning center, advising center, mentor program, or as a teacher or
teaching assistant is desirable. Also desirable are: the ability to
organize, strong communication skills, solid academic background, the
ability to work independently, and a strong commitment to student
development in higher education.

Graduate Assistant – Tutoring Services |
|
The Tutoring
Services Graduate Assistant will assist the Coordinator of Academic
Assistance with the maintenance and expansion of tutoring and tutor
training services. |
|
Terms: Part
Time, 20 hours per week – hours to be determined – occasional
evenings or weekends |
|
Compensation:
Course fees waived + $3000.00 per semester stipend |
|
To receive or
maintain a full-time assistantship, a graduate must be classified
as a full-time student, (Nine (9) or more semester hours) and
maintain a minimum GPA of 3.00 for all post-baccalaureate
course work completed at Central Connecticut State University is
required. |
|
Responsibilities included but not limited to: |

Assist in the
daily operation and oversight of the Tutoring Center (i.e.
monitor lab, facilitate tutor/tutee interaction)

Assist in the
development and delivery of tutor training

Monitor tutor
progress through the CRLA certification process

Conduct tutor
session observations
-
Conduct
surveys of tutees
-
Compile and
report data for departmental reporting and assessments
-
Assist in the
development and delivery of marketing of TLC services
-
Research
online service delivery and other uses of technology
-
Implement new
systems/programs
-
Coordinate
special events (i.e Tutor Appreciation Week, CRLA Certification
Celebration)
-
Track tutor
payroll
-
Attend weekly
staff meetings
-
Participate in
pre-service and in-service training and professional development
opportunities
-
Other duties
and responsibilities that contribute to the effectiveness of The
Learning Center
