Kosciuszko Squadron during the September 1939 campaign.
 
 
 Colonel Merian C. Cooper (center), an American member of the post-World
War I Kosciuszko Squadron, visiting its World War II counterpart, 303
Squadron, equipped with Supermarine Spitfire fighters. Cooper is also known
as the producer of the classic Hollywood film “King Kong.”
 
 

The memorial erected in Lwów to honor the American pilots who were killed
defending Poland in the war with the Soviets from 1919 to 1921.

 A sketch map of the situation in September 1939, when Poland was attacked on two fronts by German and Soviet aggression.
