Dr. Margaret Y.
Toston became Vice President of Student
Affairs at CCSU in April 2004 following
distinguished service at other institutions
of higher learning. She brings a wealth of
experience and sensitivity to the campus
unit that has the closest ongoing link with
our students.
Prior to
coming to CCSU, Dr. Toston was Senior
Student Affairs Officer, Dean of Student
Life and Development at Maryville University
of Saint Louis, Missouri. During that time,
Dr. Toston proved to be particularly adept
at managing, assessing and improving student
services. She has a reputation for having a
passion for her work as a strong advocate
for students and an effective mentor and
coach to those with whom she works. She also
held faculty rank at previous institutions.
CCSU’s new
Vice President of Student Affairs earned her
baccalaureate in speech education at
Grambling State University in Louisiana, her
master’s degree in guidance and counseling
at Northeast Louisiana State University, and
her Ph.D. in higher education leadership at
the University of Mississippi.
Earlier in
her career, Dr. Toston was Director of
Disabled Student Services and later became
Director of Minority Student Retention and
Academic Enrichment at the University of
North Carolina at Wilmington. She previously
was affiliated with Southeastern Louisiana
State University. She is a member of the
National Association of Student Personnel
Administrators (NASPA) and Omicron Delta
Kappa Honor Society.
