Image SOCIOLOGY: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR [#C08-132]

The Department of Sociology seeks a broadly trained sociologist with a strong commitment to teaching excellence for an Assistant Professor to teach Introductory Sociology and additional upper-level courses in the candidate’s specific area of interest.  The teaching load is 12-credit hours per semester.  This position is for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Qualifications: All requirements for the Ph.D. are expected at the time of appointment, although exceptional ABDs will be considered.  Candidates with an ability to teach Sociological Theory and/or the Sociology of Health and Illness may receive additional consideration.

Image CIVIL ENGINEERING – ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR [#C08-106]

The Department of Engineering invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering, with emphasis on transportation or environmental engineering. The position is open at the Assistant Professor level; however, applicants with exceptional qualifications and teaching experience may be considered at the Associate Professor level.

 Responsibilities:

  • Teach a broad range of undergraduate and graduate level courses in the civil engineering technology program.
  • Teach general introductory-level engineering and engineering technology courses.
  • Participation in curriculum development and assessment activities for ABET accreditation.
  • Actively engage in scholarly activity. 
  • Providing undergraduate student advising, and participation in student activities and new student recruitment. 
  • Participation in service activities for the university, local community, profession.

Required Qualifications: Earned B.S. and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (candidates may have a Ph.D. in engineering for a field closely related to Civil Engineering); minimum two years of teaching or professional practice experience in Civil Engineering with emphasis in transportation engineering or environmental engineering; evidence of recent scholarly activity and participation in professional organizations; and, effective oral and written communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Strong computer skills related to transportation engineering, or analytical skills related to environmental engineering; successful teaching experience in an ABET accredited engineering or engineering technology program; and, the ability to guide students in obtaining professional engineering licensure. A Professional Engineering (P.E.) license is desirable, but not required.  Preference will be given to candidates who can teach a broad range of courses offered by the Department of Engineering and who have relevant Civil Engineering practice work experience.

Image Modern Languages: Assistant Professor, German [#C08-096]

Department of Modern Languages seeks tenure-track Assistant Professor to teach four three-unit courses per semester of undergraduate German at all levels.

Qualifications: PhD in German required; ABD (completion within one year) will be considered. Area of specialization is open. Candidates with a background in translation and/or experience in teaching Humanities courses preferred. The following are also considered a plus: a) record of research applicable to teaching German languages, literature and/or culture; and b) experience with study-abroad programs.

Image GEOGRAPHY: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR [#C08-098]

Geography Department invites applications for a Human Geographer in the areas of business geography and community economic development with a regional focus on U.S. and Canada for a full-time tenure track position beginning August 2008.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Geography or allied field, or obtained within one year of appointment; teaching experience in geography; ability to teach introductory and advanced-level courses in business geography and community economic development required.  Ability to teach courses in planning, GIS, and/or U.S. and Canada is desirable. Practical/outreach experience in businesses and community development is preferred. A strong commitment to teaching and an active program of research and publication are expected.

The department is particularly interested in and values candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, along with a demonstrated commitment to improving access and the conditions in higher education for less represented students.

Image MANUFACTURING & CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (2 Positions)

          ¨ENVIRONMENTAL & OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR [#C07-164]

Teach all levels of lecture and laboratory courses in Environmental and Occupational Safety.  Additional responsibilities include a leadership role as program coordinator for the Environmental and Occupational Safety programs; participation in curriculum development for undergraduate and graduate programs; student advising; support of extracurricular student activities, clubs and competitions; developing an agenda of scholarly activities appropriate to the discipline; and, participation and service activities for the university and profession program accreditation activities.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Technology Management or Engineering or closely related disciplines (or expected completion of the Ph.D. degree within one year of hire); evidence of specialization credentials or experience in two or more of the following areas: Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Construction Safety, Accident Investigation, Loss Control, or Hazardous Materials Management; excellent communication skills; and, evidence of scholarly activity in the discipline required.  Experience and credentials above this level may be eligible for consideration at the rank of Associate Professor.

Demonstrated leadership of Safety training programs; evidence of teaching experience at the college level; demonstrated laboratory skills in related to safety; and, ability to grant OSHA cards preferred.

         ¨COMPUTER-AIDED DRAFTING and DESIGN [#C08-076]

Teach all levels of lecture and laboratory courses in computer-aided design.  Additional responsibilities include participation in curriculum development for undergraduate and graduate programs; student advising; support of extracurricular student activities, clubs and competitions; developing an agenda of scholarly activities appropriate to the discipline; and participation and service activities for the university and the profession, program accreditation activities

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Technology Management or Engineering or closely related disciplines (or expected completion of the Ph.D. degree within one year of hire); evidence of specialization and experience in the following areas: Manufacturing/Mechanical CAD, 3D Solid Modeling, creation of production drawings or architectural/engineering blueprints; excellent communication skills; and, evidence of  scholarly activity in the discipline required.  Experience and credentials above this level may be eligible for consideration at the rank of Associate Professor.

Demonstrated proficiency in the area of Computer-Aided Drafting and Design; college-level teaching experience; knowledge of Autodesk, or Solidworks, and or Unigraphics NX; demonstrated laboratory skills related to CAD/CAM integration; ability to teach AEC CAD, BIM, Blueprint reading; and, knowledge of Modeling and Simulation applications for manufacturing and/or construction preferred.

Image Physical Education & Human Performance: Assistant/Associate Professor [#C08-061]

Full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2008.  Responsibilities include the supervision of student teachers, physical education pedagogy and lifetime fitness wellness.  Faculty is expected to contribute to the mission of the university as well as the department, engage in scholarship, service and student advisement.

Qualifications:  Earned doctorate in Physical Education or related field by August 2008; and, appropriate record of scholarship and research in Physical Education or related field required.  College teaching experience; minimum of one year of K-12 teaching experience; and, experience in movement fundamentals and dance preferred.  Experience and credentials above this level may make one eligible for consideration at the rank of Associate Professor.

Image MATHEMATICS EDUCATION: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR [#C08-070]

Department of Mathematical Sciences seeks tenure-track Assistant Professor with a specialty in Mathematics Education beginning Fall 2008. The successful applicant will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in mathematics and mathematics education for current and future elementary, middle and secondary teachers; supervise secondary student teachers; advise undergraduate and graduate students; and continue scholarly activity and service to the university and profession.

Qualifications: Earned doctorate in mathematics, mathematics education or related field with a specialty in mathematics education; ABD considered. Teaching experience at the elementary, middle or secondary level required.

Evidence of teaching effectiveness, scholarly potential, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues Teaching at the secondary education level, college level and supervisory experience in a college/university or school district preferred.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience working with diverse groups of students, faculty and staff.

Image TEACHER EDUCATION: (ELEMENTARY/SECONDARY) ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR [#C08-058]

The Department of Teacher Education seeks a school specialist with expertise in elementary or secondary education.  Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the secondary and/or elementary programs, which may include learning theories, methodology, assessment, and research. The individual may also supervise practica; and must participate in collaborative work with other faculty and pursue a scholarly agenda.

Required Qualifications:  Doctorate in related area of education; at least 3 years of successful public school teaching experience at the K-12 level; evidence of current knowledge base in learning, curriculum, methodologies, and assessment; evidence of effective teaching and collaboration; and evidence of scholarly activity or potential.

Preferred Qualifications:  Public school experience in the U.S.; expertise in professional development schools, practica supervision, and teacher education; evidence of expertise that complements program priorities, including (but not limited to) English language learners assessment; technology integration, inclusion, differentiation of instruction, action research, or diversity.  Experience and credentials above this level may make one eligible for consideration at the rank of Associate Professor.

Teach didactic and clinical courses, program planning/curriculum development, academic advisement, scholarship, and service to the department, the university, and the community.  The successful candidates will be involved in planning and implementing a generic B.S.N. program to open in 2007.

Qualifications: Masters in Advanced Practice Nursing; earned Doctorate in Nursing preferred; experience in specialty area, faculty role, and program planning; Connecticut licensure/eligibility for Connecticut licensure; and specialization in Adult Health, Women’s Health or Gerontological Nursing.  Others with advanced preparation in nursing will be considered.
