Spyware is an ever growing issue. It can cause system crashes, degraded performance and annoying pop-up windows. Spyware can collect and transmit information (such as e-mail addresses, passwords, and credit card numbers) all without your knowledge.
In order to combat the spread of spyware, Information Technology Services has implemented the McAfee Anti-Spyware solution.
McAfee Anti-Spyware Enterprise Module v8.0 is an application that integrates with McAfee Anti-Virus Enterprise v8.0.0.
Through an agreement coordinated by the Connecticut State University System Office, we are now able to offer a site license for these
McAfee integrated applications to all faculty, staff, and students.
On August 21st, 2006, McAfee’s Anti-Spyware module began loading seamlessly on computers connected to the CCSU network
(computers in offices and classrooms). To verify that the Anti-Spyware module installed correctly on your computer, right-click
on the VirusScan icon (the red V shield at the bottom right of your screen next to the clock) and select “About VirusScan Enterprise.”
The About VirusScan Enterprise window should read “VirusScan Enterprise + Anti-Spyware Module 8.0.0.”
Please contact the ITS Help Desk
if you have any questions. ITS conducted many tests and the result shows good promise. Below is a chart of the test results.
Three anti-spyware applications were tested and the traces of spyware found clearly speak for themselves.
McAfee won the battle by a landslide!
