Student E-mail Clean Up
If you have not accessed your CCSU e-mail account in the last 90 days, all of the information inside of the mailbox will be deleted. This includes all data within Outlook including e-mail messages, contacts, calendar, tasks and notes. This process will be run on a daily basis. If you have accessed your mailbox in the last 90 days but you have messages that are older, those messages will not be deleted. Please note: just the messages are deleted, not the mailbox itself.

ResNet Walk-In Support
Problems with your computer? Unable to connect to the network or login to Cisco Clean Access? ResNet Walk-In Support is available for the whole semester! Visit ResNet Walk-In SUpport to resolve your issues. No appointment necessary! Laptops, desktops and towers are all welcome and supported; no need to bring your monitor, keyboard, or mouse. If it is not convenient to carry your computer from your room, see your RA/RD to sign out a cart to help transport your computer!

For hours and location, please visit ResNet Walk-In Support.

Computer Labs
Residential computer labs are now accessible 24/7. Simply swipe your BlueChip ID card at the door and enter your six digit birth date (i.e. June 24, 1985 is to be entered as 062485). If you are experiencing problems getting into the labs, contact your RA/RD to gain access.

Personal Network Equipment
Personal bridges and routers of any type are PROHIBITED on the CCSU campus network. Bridges and routers were the number one reason for Internet connectivity issues last semester, especially in James Hall. If you are unsure whether you have a bridge or router set up on your computer, please call the IT Help Desk at (860) 832-1720.

Laptop Battery Recalls
Both Dell and Apple recently recalled over 5.9 million laptop batteries. If your laptop has a defective battery, there is a very good chance your laptop is in danger of catching on fire cuasing harm to you and others around you. Dell and Apple have set up web sites to help you determind if you have a defective battery.

Should Know

Outlook Web Access (OWA)
ITS performed an in-place upgrade to our e-mail servers from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003. A new version of OWA will be noticed once you login to your e-mail account at www.mail.ccsu.edu if using Internet Explorer.

Other Internet Devices (Gaming/Tivo)
We are pleased to announce that we no longer require manual registration for other devices, such as game consoles and Tivo, to access the Internet.  For your convenience, we now allow entire ranges of well known MAC addresses to identify Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo and Tivo devices. If are experiencing problems accessing the network with your device, please visit Register a Gaming Device and complete the online form.

Security Threats and Viruses
If your computer is running slow, abnormal or if you think you have a virus, please disconnect your computer from the CCSU network. Staying connected may cause the virus to spread to your fellow residents.  Call the IT Help Desk at (860) 832-1720 immediately for technical support or to schedule an appointment for a ResNet Technician to diagnose the issue.

Tech4U books
Tech4U Booklets are now available!  These handy guides can help you get started in discovering the many technology resources available to you.  Student guides are available in the residence hall computer labs, Student Center and Marcus White Computer Lab.  Please visit Tech4U to view the online version.

Useful to Know

McAfee VirusScan Enterprise & Anti-Spyware Module 8.5
McAfee’s Anti-Spyware module is now available with McAfee Anti-Virus as a convenient integrated download.  This enhancement will help protect your computer from spyware and viruses.  To download and install McAfee, visit ITS Downloads.

Spam filter update
Due to an increase in the number of spam messages getting through the Mail Frontier anti-spam system, we have added a new rule to the spam filter that blocks any message without text in the subject or body.  The offending messages have been escaping detection by using graphic files instead of text.  This new rule should capture these messages.  This may cause certain messages that are NOT spam to be sent to your Junk Box in Mail Frontier, so, as always, please review the Junk Email Summary that is automatically sent to you from Mail Frontier to ensure that messages you need are not being marked as spam.  If you have any questions, please contact the IT Help Desk at (860) 832-1720.

Windows Genuine Validation Update
When attempting to perform Windows Updates, Windows may fail to update using Microsoft’s Windows Update even with a “Genuine” version of Windows.  This is caused by corrupted or unregistered DLL files within Windows.  Please contact the IT Help Desk for assistance.  The Help Desk can help you reregister the DLL files.  If this does not work, you may need to contact your computer’s manufacturer for a resolution.

Bulletin Boards
Bulletin boards containing ResNet updates are located in all computer labs in the residence halls. Please check these boards periodically to stay informed!  Information includes available technical support, updates, and real time network outages.
