Updating
your virus definitions
Note: The Mac must be running OSX 10.4.11 or
later to install.
MAC OSX VirusScan 8.5 helps keep your Apple computer free of viruses, Trojan horses and other malicious code. It scans volumes, files and folders, and provides detailed reports of what it finds. It is very important to have an anti-virus program installed on your computer and to update it regularly.
Downloading Mac OSX VirusScan 8.5 from the Internet
Important:
If you already have an anti-virus software installed on
your computer, you must uninstall it before you can successfully install
VirusScan 8.5. Please refer to your current anti-virus software documentation for instructions on how to uninstall the program.
- Turn on your computer and allow it to fully boot up.
- Log into the computer.
- Open up your web browser and navigate to www.ccsu.edu/its/downloads.
- The CCSU IT downloads page will open. Click on MAC OSX VirusScan 8.5.
- An authentication window will open. Enter in your domain followed by your BlueNet Account and password. Click OK. Note: If you are using Safari, you may not need to enter the domain.
Students: ccsu_aca_comp\"BlueNet Account" and password
Faculty/Staff: ccsu_comp_srv\"BlueNet Account" and password.
- Once downloaded the Mac OSX VirusScan 8.5 window will open. Double-click on the Mac VirusScan.pkg icon.
- Click Continue if prompted.
- The install VirusScan window will open. Read the installer information and click Continue. Read the important information and click Continue.
- Read the Software License Agreement. Make sure English is selected by default and click Continue.
- A small window stating, "To Continue installing the software, you must agree to the terms of the software license agreement" will open. Click on Agree.
- You should install to the default location, click Install.
- A window will pop up asking for your username and password to continue. Enter a username and password with administrative rights (if on campus, this is your BlueNet Account).
- Next select "Read and Write" in the Configure on Access Scanner Window. Click Continue.
- Click Restart.
Updating your virus definitions
It is essential to run updates with
anti-virus software. New viruses are constantly cropping up and regular
updating is the only way to keep your anti-virus software current and your
computer safe.
*To
perform an update you must be connected to the internet.*

Open up VirusScan 8.5 by clicking on the
icon. If the icon is not on your Desktop, go to Finder. From the menu
click on Applications. The Applications window will open. Double click
on the VirusScan icon.

A VirusScan window will open. Click on the
eUpdate button located at the bottom of the window.

Click on the Start button to update the latest virus definitions.

Once you have updated, the window will
say, "Your virus definitions are up to date." Your DAT date should be within 2 days of the current date.
- Close the window.
- Restart the computer for the updates to take effect.
