IT Announcement - 6/29/2016

Blackboard Service Interruption – July 1

On Friday, July 1 from 2am to 6am, Blackboard Learn will be unavailable while maintenance is performed on their data center. This is being done during the normal maintenance window.  If you have any questions, please email.

SafeAssign and Blackboard Learn

The SafeAssign tool built-in to Blackboard Learn compares submitted assignments against a set of academic papers to identify areas of overlap between the submitted assignment and existing works to help prevent plagiarism. The results from the SafeAssign service are only meant to be a tool for use at the discretion of the teacher or instructor. Due to the size and scope of both academic subject matter and the number of resources searched by SafeAssign, the results are not meant to guarantee or otherwise indicate that plagiarism has or has not occurred. New to Office 365 or Microsoft Office 2013?  Please visit our Office 365 support page.

New Phone System

Information Technology  is pleased to announce that we will be updating our phone system over the summer of 2016.  The current Avaya phone system is over 20 years old and no longer being supported by the manufacturer.  We will be moving to a new Cisco Voice over IP (VoIP) phone system.

The deployment and training plan has been emailed to campus.  We hope to have all the phones deployed by mid-August. Training will run through the end of September.

Visit our VOIP information page for more information and updates.

SSN Protection in Email

Information Technology will be implementing a new security feature called DLP (Data Loss Prevention) that should notify you if DCL3 data such as social security numbers are being sent or received via email.  The body of the notification will look like this:

The CCSU email system has flagged this email as possibly containing Personally Identifiable Information (PII) such as a Social Security Number (SSN) or driver’s license number. If the system made a mistake in identifying the information as PII, please ignore this message.
