IT Announcement - 10/01/2015

Sunday Maintenance Reminder

Every Sunday from 12am until 12pm all Systems (e-mail, Banner, wireless, etc.) will be intermittently unavailable while important maintenance and updates are performed.

Weekly Maintenance – Reminder

Please log off your computer when leaving for the day every Thursday, but do not power it off.  This will allow updates to be sent down to your computer on Friday after 12:00am.  If you turn your computer off and leave it off overnight on Thursday, shortly after turning it back on, your computer will restart in order to install and apply any updates. If you leave your computer logged in Thursday night into Friday, you may lose any unsaved data you were working on when the computer restarts.

System Status/Outage Information

When network/system issues occur, e-mail is sometimes not available or accessible to all in order for us to bring you information.  We'd like to take this opportunity to share with you our "System Status" Twitter feed which is part of the IT Service Catalog homepage at http://itservices.ccsu.edu.  If you have a Twitter account, you can follow us @CCSUIT.

Important Information for Laptop Users

Please connect your laptop to the CCSU wired network at least once a month to receive important security updates. To ensure the updates are applied, it is best to plug the laptop into a power source and leave it powered on overnight while connected to the network.

Microsoft Office 2016 Incompatibility Issue for Apple Computers

This version was recently released however, it is not compatible with the CCSU email servers.  Once we migrate to Microsoft’s hosted Exchange service, this issue will be resolved.  We hope to have firm plans soon.

WebEx Not Support Using Windows 10

The current version of WebEx we use through the Board of Regents, is not supported by Windows 10.  Steps are being taken by the Board of Regents to update the site in November.  No exact date given yet.   In the meantime, please do not use Windows 10 with WebEx.

New Macintosh Operating System – El Capitan

Apple released a new Mac operating system update called El Capitan on Wednesday, September 30. Please do not upgrade your CCSU-owned Mac to the new operating system at this time.  Information Technology needs to conduct testing to ensure this operating system is compatible with our network and systems.  If you upgrade to the new operating system on your own and have issues, our only solution at this point will be to reimage your computer back to the currently supported version.
