Sunday Maintenance Reminder
Every Sunday from 12am until 12pm all Systems (e-mail, Banner, wireless, etc.) will be intermittently unavailable while important maintenance and updates are performed.
Weekly Maintenance – Reminder
Please log off your computer when leaving for the day every Thursday, but do not power it off. This will allow updates to be sent down to your computer on Friday after 12:00am. If you turn your computer off and leave it off overnight on Thursday, shortly after turning it back on, your computer will restart in order to install and apply any updates. If you leave your computer logged in Thursday night into Friday, you may lose any unsaved data you were working on when the computer restarts.

When network/system issues occur, e-mail is sometimes not available or accessible to all in order for us to bring you information. Software Installation Policy for Classrooms and Labs
Requests for software installation in a classroom or lab are required to be submitted at least three weeks in advance. This timeframe gives IT a chance to thoroughly evaluate the software to assure it will work well in our environment. To request software installation in a classroom or lab, please complete the “Software Installation Request for Classrooms & Labs” form using the online Service Request system athttps://hsm.ccsu.edu.
Blackboard Learn Chat Tool/Virtual Classroom Will Be Disabled
Effective for the Fall 2015 semester, the Chat Tool will be disabled(including the virtual classroom tool which combines chat and the whiteboard) due to issues with Java. For several semesters, we have incurred consistent issues with the Java applet running Chat within Blackboard Learn. With the advent of smartphones, tablets and constant changes to browser and Java versions running on these devices, it has become impossible to support the tool on a global basis.
We invite faculty to use WebEx which is a more powerful tool. WebEx is a web conferencing tool used for synchronous communication. It allows you to connect with your students using voice and video. There is even a chat tool within WebEx that can be utilized.
Digital Cable Television – Coming This Summer!
BLUE TV is readying for the transition to all digital cable channels on campus this summer. All channels will be digitally transmitted across campus and a new program guide will be available on the cable system. Additional channels will be added to the lineup and some channel locations will be changing. It will be important to rescan your television or tuning device in order to receive the new digital lineup. Please review your television to see if it has a Clear QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) tuner built-in. You will need to locate your television model number and perform a search online using that make and model. Most manufacturers offer an online version of the operator’s manual that will confirm if your television has a QAM tuner built-in. If no QAM tuner is present in your television, alternate solutions are available. Please email email@example.com for more information.
Getting Ready for Fall
Prepping your course: We have put together a Blackboard Learn “Prepping your Course” information sheet and are offering workshops throughout the summer.
Course Merges: Please keep in mind that course merges (combining of Blackboard Learn sections) should be requested before the semester begins. Please submit your merge request for Fall 2015 as soon as possible.
Telecommunication Service Request (TSR) Forms
As summer is a busy season for Telecommunications, any telephone moves, adds, changes or disconnects needed for the start of the Fall semester must be received in the IT/Telecom Office by Friday, August 7, 2015. Any TSR’s received after this date cannot be guaranteed to be completed before the semester begins. TSR’s may be found on theTelecom website.
