USE AND ABUSE OF DRUGS AND ALCOHOL
Central Connecticut State University is concerned about the health and welfare of all members of its academic community. Since our students represent Connecticut's future work force and leadership, we want them to learn and study in an environment which encourages and supports a healthy life-style. We also have an obligation to provide support and encouragement for our faculty and staff to lead a healthy and productive life. To this end, we must be clear about Central Connecticut State University's policy on the use and abuse of drugs and alcohol:
The University is strongly committed to a campus environment that supports the development of a healthy life-style for all members of its community.
The abuse of alcohol and other drugs clearly leads to many other health risks. It is important for all of us to be fully aware of these risks. The University Health Services Office has prepared free brochures on health risks associated with alcohol and drug abuse. They are available at the Health Services Office and the Student Center. Extensive information is also available through the Prevention and Counseling Services' Resource Library.
The University provides support for employees and students through both informal and formal networks of service:
The Prevention and Counseling Service, Health Services, Campus Ministries, the Employee Assistance Program and the Student Assistance Programs are available to provide information and assistance for all members of the University community.
The legal use of alcohol is permitted only in designated sites on the campus.
Alcohol is not permitted in most Residence Hall rooms and in all offices.
The illegal (underage) use of alcohol is not permitted in any building or on the grounds of the campus.
The possession, use, or distribution of illegal drugs (controlled substances) on the campus is strictly prohibited.
Employees and students who violate these policies may be subject to University, civil, and possibly federal prosecution and/or disciplinary action. Copies of State and federal penalties for possession and distribution of controlled substances are available through the Office of Judicial Programs and the Personnel Office.
The Prevention and Counseling Service (ext. 21945) serves as the primary campus resource for information and personal assistance for substance abuse.
