Ethics Tutorial for All Researchers
To comply with the HSC/IRB requirement for completing a tutorial on protecting human subjects in research, all investigators and staff named in a research protocol that involve human subjects are to complete the ethics tutorial program: Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI).
CITI is finalizing the set of modules that will be required by HSC/IRB. CITI will offer three options. Group 1 for Undergraduate Students, Group 2 for Faculty/Graduate Students and Group 3 for IRB Members.
Each group will have a set of required modules to complete along with two electives. Each module takes about 15 to 20 minutes. It is possible to start the tutorial then logoff to return later to finish.
CITI certificates of completion must be submitted with the Initial Protocol Submission Form for review by the HSC/IRB. Certificates of completion for the NIH Protecting Human Research Participants course that were completed within the past three years are also acceptable. NIH certificates of completion older than three years have expired and the certificate holder must complete the CITI Ethics Tutorial.
NIH has discontinued the (NIH) Protecting Human Research Participants course. Certificates of completion for the NIH Protecting Human Research Participants are still valid for three years from date of completion.
The CCSU HSC/IRB requires all investigators (faculty and student) and staff named in a research protocol that involves human subjects complete the CITI ethics tutorial program.
