Policy Regarding Conditional Admission for
International Graduate Students
Conditional Admission may be offered if a student demonstrates "insufficient English language proficiency" by a TOEFL score that does not meet the CCSU graduate school requirements but has at least a score of 485/160.
If a student does not have the required TOEFL score, a letter of conditional acceptance, based on the recommendation of the Department offering the Program and the Dean of Graduate Studies, may be issued to the student with the conditions stated as enrollment in IELP classes until satisfactory demonstration on English language proficiency that meets Graduate School standards. Attendance of the Intensive English Language Program (IELP) will be no more than 2 semesters or 5 8-week sessions. Subsequent to the aforementioned period of study and prior to commencing full-time graduate study, the Transition class plus 2 credit-bearing university classes may be taken.
In this instance, a Conditional Letter of Acceptance may be issued to the student stating the "s/he is academically admissible for Graduate study at Central Connecticut State University predicated upon satisfactory demonstration of English language proficiency. Said proficiency is to be gained through attendance of the Intensive English Language Program (IELP) for whatever time (but not exceeding the time stipulated above) is deemed necessary by the IELP Director in order for his/her English language proficiency to meet Graduate School standards."
At the completion of each 8-week session of the IELP, the IELP Director will take responsibility for circulating an updated list of each student currently in Conditional Admit status. This list will include, but not be limited to: Student Name and Contact Information; Level of IELP in which currently enrolled; Start Session/Date of Conditional Termination Session/Date of Conditional Admit; Session/Date during which the student which the student wishes to start full-time study.
